Some of the easiest garden plants for beginners include lavender, marigolds, tomatoes, mint, and succulents. These plants require minimal care and adapt well to different conditions.

Most garden plants need watering around 2–3 times per week, but this depends on the plant type, soil, and weather. Always check that the topsoil is dry before watering to avoid overwatering.

Well-draining, nutrient-rich soil is ideal for most garden plants. A mix of compost, topsoil, and organic matter helps plants grow strong and healthy.

In the UK, the best time to plant most garden plants is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October). Planting times may vary depending on the plant variety and weather conditions.

To choose the right garden plants, consider sunlight levels, soil type, climate, and available space. Shade-loving plants grow best in low-light areas, while sun-loving plants need full sunlight to thrive.

Yellow leaves on garden plants are commonly caused by overwatering, poor drainage, nutrient deficiencies, or pests. Check soil moisture, improve drainage if needed, and inspect plants for signs of pests.

To encourage faster growth in garden plants, use quality compost, provide adequate sunlight, water consistently, and feed plants with organic fertiliser during the growing season.

Garden plant lifespan depends on the type. Annuals last one season, while perennials can live for several years with proper care.

Succulents, hostas, ornamental grasses, and native plants are generally low maintenance. They require less watering, feeding, and overall care.

Most garden plants need between 4–8 hours of sunlight per day. Check whether your plant prefers full sun, partial shade, or full shade before planting.

Use fleece, cloches, or move potted plants to sheltered areas during cold weather. Frost-sensitive plants should be protected in winter.

Pruning depends on the plant type, but generally remove dead or damaged growth and trim to encourage healthy new growth. Many plants are best pruned in late winter or early spring.

Use mulch, weed regularly, and plant densely to reduce space for weeds to grow.

Repot plants when they outgrow their container or roots become crowded, usually every 1–2 years.

Yes, overwatering can cause root rot and yellowing leaves. Ensure good drainage and only water when needed.
